How the increase in energy demand affects the charging of electric vehicles

How the increase in energy demand affects the charging of electric vehicles

Electric mobility is advancing at great speed, but this growth brings with it an inevitable question: Is our power grid ready to assume the increase in demand involved in the electric car? From Proelectric, we want to shed light on this key issue, analyzing the real impact and how good planning in the installation of charging points can make a difference.

Is electricity demand increasing so much?

Yes, but not as much as it seems. Although the number of electric vehicles in circulation is growing steadily, its impact on the network remains moderate, especially when smart charging solutions are implemented.

To put it in perspective: charging an electric car at home during the night is equivalent to turning on an oven for a couple of hours. What can really generate problems is a high concentration of vehicles loading simultaneously at the same point or time slot… something that can be avoided with a proper installation.

Key 1: Smart recharge = balanced network

One of the most effective tools to avoid overloads is intelligent or managed recharging. This system allows:

  • Schedule the load at times of low demand (for example, early in the morning).
  • Adjust the charging power according to the consumption of the home or building.
  • Make the most of the surplus of solar self-consumption, if any.

At Proelectric we install chargers compatible with this type of management, which optimizes both the cost for the user and the impact on the network.

Key 2: Facilities adapted to the environment

It is not the same to install a charging point in a single-family home than in a community of neighbours, a company or a public parking lot. Each environment has its own challenges, both technical and regulatory.

Therefore, it is not enough to place a charger: It is essential to evaluate the capacity of the existing facility, anticipate future growth and, if necessary, plan a scalable and safe expansion.

At Proelectric we carried out a previous study to ensure that each installation:

  • Complies with ITC-BT-52 regulations.
  • It has adequate protections.
  • Can adapt to a possible increase in power in the future.
And what about sustainability?

A more demanded network does not have to be less sustainable. In fact, electric mobility is promoting the modernization of the electrical system, encouraging:

  • The use of renewable energy to power chargers.
  • The development of energy storage systems.
  • The advance towards a more distributed energy model, where the user can also produce and manage their energy.
New commitment in Proelectric

The growth of the electric vehicle is an opportunity for everyone… if it is done well. At Proelectric we believe in sustainable, safe and efficient mobility, and that starts with a quality installation, adapted to every need.

We install charging points with a vision of the future, so that electric mobility continues to grow without putting our network or our pocket in check.
